Dreamgirl, my ass! Hudson called to be removed!

In Celebrity News, Movies on December 7, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Jennifer Hudson, star of 2007’s “Dreamgirls,” has been called out by a South African acting union, The Creative Workers Union of South Africa. The Creative Workers Union of South African want to stop Hudson from playing Nelson Mandela’s wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, in a new Hollywood production detailing the former first lady’s life.

According to the AFP and Yahoo News, the union was quoted as saying, “It can’t happen that we want to develop our own Hollywood and yet bring in imports…his decision must be reversed, it must be stopped now.”

Okay, here’s my take on this. STFU! Let’s be happy that a movie about this courageous woman is being made, produced, and sold with the backing of Hollywood. If you want to make your OWN damn movie, using YOUR own actors, using YOUR own money, then by all means get on it! But don’t come harking your concerns about this. Although I don’t believe Jennifer Hudson is that great of an actress, this is an American production, and the producers believe she fits the bill. And don’t forget, there are plenty of other parts in the film that can go to South African actors, not just this particular one.

DOOR CLOSED.

Box Office Update

In Uncategorized on December 7, 2009 at 6:46 pm

The Blind Side, starring that chick from “Miss Congeniality” and that country singer who is balding at the top, has reached #1 at the box office this weekend, in it’s 3rd week of release, with $20.4 million in ticket sales. Not bad, Ms. Bullock. Not bad. This movie really has some friggin’ legs; The Blind Side has made over $129.3 million! We, as America, just can’t get enough of sappy, happy, tales about unfortunate fat, black kids.

Has anyone checked on Precious?

New Moon, last week’s #1 film, featuring those damn vampires and catty wolves, came in at #2 this weekend with $15.7 million, which equals a 63% drop from last weekend. That gives New Moon a, so far, grand total of $255.6 million domestically. Not bad for a movie that involves 30 minutes of looking at Kristen Stewart pout.

Door closed on this weekend at the box office, but, what movie are looking forward to next weekend? Invictus, starring Morgan Freeman and the dude from the Bourne trilogy? The Lovely Bones, starring…….Susan Sarandon and that rapper Markie Mark?

Who do YOU think is going to be #1?
