Wow. Sherlock Holmes, that one movie starring that one dude from Iron Man, has set a Christmas Day box office record, by grossing over $24.9 million beating Avatar and new release, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
But not by much I might add. Avatar, in its second week of release, managed to grab $23.5 million of the box office Christmas pie. And my favorite new release of the holiday season, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel is heading toward the right direction of passing its predecessor by earning $14.5 million in its third day of release. With that added in, the film has made over $41.4 million since its Wednesday release.
Not bad for a bunch of singing chipmunks. By the way, if you haven’t seen the movie, then, um, you are officially lame. Just throwing it out there.
I kid, I kid, but no seriously, go see the movie.
This holiday season is already proving to be a monstrous period for the box office. Total sales have already eclipsed last year’s total box office receipts around this time, bringing in over $82.9 million, a 31% rise.
Not bad. Oh and Warner Bros.? They set a record also for being the first movie studio to cross the 2+$billion mark in one year. And since they are few more days left in the ear, they will easily add to that total just to shove it in their competitor’s face.
Hell, I would.
Door closed.
